BowMont has supported indigenous clients on both indigenous led and developer led energy projects. Where indigenous partners have participated in developer led projects, BowMont has advised on optimal financial structuring, valuations, financial modeling and provided advice on financial and commercial terms and supported negotiations to ensure our indigenous clients receive the best possible terms. On indigenous led projects, BowMont brings its full suite of Financial Advisory services including debt and equity capital raising, financial modeling, bid support and strategic advisory to support its indigenous clients. BowMont has significant experience with arranging grant funding, loan guarantees and equity and debt funding from all federal and provincial agencies.

Projects with Indigenous Partners which BowMont has been involved in:

BowMont advised Ziibi Anishinaabe Investments Inc. (“Ziibi”), the business development corporation of the Rainy River First Nation, on a potential investment in a large scale renewable energy project in Ontario. BowMont advised on the proposed valuation, modeling and commercial terms of the transaction



BowMont advised a consortium made up of Zagime Anishinabek First Nation, Kinisten Saulteaux Nation, and the Yorkton Tribal Council on a potential investment in a large scale renewable energy project in Saskatchewan. BowMont advised on the proposed structuring, valuation, and commercial terms of the transaction and supported the partners in their negotiation with the project developer.


BowMont led the deal structuring and led the project financing for the Tilley Solar Project, a 23MWAC solar project in Alberta. The project financing involved a long term project finance loan of $33 million from the Canadian Infrastructure Bank ("CIB") and an indigenous equity loan from the project developer (Concord Green Energy) which allowed the First Nations partners 50% equity participation in the project.

BowMont advised its client, in partnership with the George Gordon First Nation, on a large scale renewable energy project being bid into a SaskPower RFP. BowMont advised on the proposed structuring, valuation, bid pricing and commercial terms of the transaction.

BowMont’s client, Concord Green Energy, asked BowMont to identify potential indigenous partners to participate in a portfolio of 3 solar projects in Alberta totalling 67.6 MWAC. BowMont engaged with multiple First Nation and Metis entities and ultimately arranged a 50/50 partnership with the Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation (“ACFN”). BowMont led the overall commercial structuring and financing for the projects. The projects reached commercial operation in 2022.

BowMont led the development of 3 battery storage projects at the existing Coaldale, Monarch and Vulcan solar project sites on behalf of its clients, ACFN and Concord Green Energy. The projects were the first utility scale, co-located solar + battery storage sites in Alberta. In addition to project development activities, BowMont led the successful application for NRCan grant funding which resulted in a grant of $45.8 million under the Smart Renewables and Electrification Pathways (“SREPs”) program. The projects reached commercial operation in 2024.

BowMont arranged a partnership with Conklin Metis Local 193 and Canadian Solar Solutions Inc. for three Alberta based solar Projects totalling 67 MWAC. The projects were awarded 20 year power purchase agreements by Alberta Infrastructure as part of their RFP for solar supply in February 2019. The projects achieved commercial operations in 2022.
